yanks and Irish pubs

Ok...so went to an Irish pub when on Holiday...called Rosie Mccanns. Seemed like a nice thing to do on a Saturday night while catching up with some mates. So here are the incongruities in my Irish pub experiences

1) Cover charge = $10, who had heard of an Irish pub having a cover charge, unless you are going to watch a champions league rugby match and they have to cover their satellite tv expenses

2) They were playing hip hop music in the pub. By definition in a pub you dont play music...and hip hop music....ughh

3) I asked for Kilkenny Beer. The bartender looked at me as if I was from mars and then went on to assure me that such a beer does not exist and he would know better as he works in an "Irish bar" after all.

Now im on a crusade to find out...if this experience of mine is characteristic of this "yuppie bar" or is it spread everywhere else? Dont remember irish pubs being like that in the other bars in the area that I used to goto

-A out !
